HSM Motors CEO Mikhail Hosein hopes he will be able to resume operations as soon as possible and retain his 30 workers in the wake of an arson attack on his Chase Village, Carapichaima business on Thursday.
Yesterday Hosein said they had not received any updates from the police or Fire Service in the ongoing investigation into the attack. However, he said footage of the attack was sent and received by the TTPS.
Hosein said neither, company officials nor workers had been threatened after the brazen attack, and reiterated the company was not being extorted prior to the attack.
The workers were out yesterday trying to organise so that operations will resume soon.
He said the majority of HSM’s stock was unaffected and the company will not be having any fire sale. He said it was impractical to store vehicles in warehouses, hence the fact that all of the vehicles were on the compound. He thanked members of the Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce, the public and the business community wh ohad offered support.
Hosein said HSM will also be beefing up security on the compound.
Arsonists jumped the fence and torched 15 vehicles by breaking the windows of the cars and pouring an accelerant into them and setting them ablaze.
Hosein said the showroom and service centre suffered damage because of the intense heat emanating from the cars. He said an assessment of damage was ongoing and he will have the final figures by next week.
