The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has ramped up its anti-crime drive with a series of targeted operations across the Port-of-Spain and Western Divisions on Sunday, resulting in the seizure of narcotics and illegal items—including near a community centre.
A statement from the TTPS yesterday said that between 9 am and 2 pm Sunday, officers in the Port-of-Spain Division carried out a high-visibility hybrid operation led by Senior Superintendent Ramnarine, Superintendent Ramsook, and ASP Singh. The operation focused on several crime-prone areas including Beetham Gardens, Sea Lots, and parts of east Port-of-Spain such as Duncan, George, Nelson, and Duke Streets.
During a search behind the Basilon Street Community Centre, officers discovered a black plastic bag containing five transparent packets of plant material resembling cannabis, weighing 120 grammes, along with three rectangular objects resembling pistol magazines. The items were seized.
Around the same time, members of the Western Division Task Force conducted Operation Steadfast under the supervision of Senior Superintendent Williams, Superintendent Gyan, and ASP Aguillera, coordinated by Inspector Grant.
At 2 pm, acting on intelligence, officers searched an unsecured lot along Vanderpool Lane, Diego Martin, where they found 14 cannabis plants. The plants were seized and taken to the St James Police Station for destruction.
The TTPS said investigations are ongoing and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong presence across all divisions, dismantling criminal networks, and ensuring public safety.
