Motorists and commuters of Diego Martin, Carenage, and environs experienced hours of slow-moving traffic this morning that backed up from Cocorite to as far as Church Street on the Diego Martin Main Road.

One commuter told Guardian Media that the traffic began from as early as 7 am.

A source, who asked not to be identified, blamed the traffic congestion on safety barriers being placed incorrectly along the road.

The Programme for Upgrading Road Efficiency Unit (PURE) under the Ministry of Works and Transport is currently elevating the Western Main Road in the vicinity of Cocorite which floods quickly when rain falls.

The source explained that phase one was completed last evening and phase two will be done tonight.
