Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal, has ordered an inquest to be held into the death of Michael Angelo Francis, who sustained stab wounds and subsequently died at the hospital on October 5.
A statement from the TTPS yesterday said the female suspect who was held in connection with the incident was also ordered released, pending the findings of the inquest.
Police said the decision was made on October 10.
Francis, 27, of Port-of-Spain sustained a single stab wound to the chest with a knife on October 5 and died on the same date at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
At the time of the incident, police said a woman and a close female relative of Francis got into an altercation, which led to Francis physically intervening when he was stabbed.
Police said investigations were supervised by ASP (Ag) Ramjag, Insp (Ag) Stanislaus, Insp (Ag) Seecharan, and Insp (Ag) Ramsumair, all of Homicide Bureau of Investigation (HBI), Region One, together with various agencies. WPC Grant, also of HBI Region One, is the complainant in the matter.
