Com­pet­ing in the Pow­er cat­e­go­ry in his re­turn to the In­ter­na­tion­al So­ca Monarch fol­low­ing his ab­sten­tion from the com­pe­ti­tion last year, Iw­er George has been named as one of the 16 fi­nal­ists in this year’s com­pe­ti­tion.

George had at­trib­uted his re­turn to the com­pe­ti­tion to the rein­tro­duc­tion of the Pow­er Cat­e­go­ry.

Join­ing him in the Pow­er cat­e­go­ry are Mr Kil­la, Lil Nat­ty and Thun­der, Ter­ri Lyons, Chingee, Granny, Jo Jo and Mr Legz.

The fi­nal­ists for the Groovy cat­e­go­ry are Ted­dyson John, Swap­pi, Blaxx, Man­del­la, Ri­car­do Drue, V’ghn, Tim Tim/Ray­zor, and Preedy.

While both Blaxx and Mot­to com­pet­ed in the semi­fi­nals in both cat­e­gories, Blaxx was the on­ly of the pair to move for­ward with his con­tend­ing song in the Groovy cat­e­go­ry.

The fi­nal­ists will put their best foot for­ward on Fan­tas­tic Fri­day— March 1—at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah.

This year is the first time the com­pe­ti­tion was head­ed by a so­ca artiste and past com­peti­tor in the com­pe­ti­tion— Fay Ann Lyons-Al­varez— who was ap­point­ed as it’s chair­man last month.

This year’s com­pe­ti­tion was al­so one of the first in re­cent times to have got­ten all round pos­i­tive re­views on so­cial me­dia. Many at­ten­dees al­so laud­ed the com­pe­ti­tion for its time­ly and fin­ish­ing be­fore the sched­uled end time. Keep­ing with­in it’s time has been some­thing the com­pe­ti­tion strug­gled with in years gone by.
