Po­lit­i­cal an­a­lyst Dr Win­ford James has said there’s no con­flict of in­ter­est in his ap­point­ment as deputy chair­man of the board ap­point­ed re­cent­ly to over­see the op­er­a­tions at the Stud­ley Park Quar­ry in To­ba­go and the fact that his broth­er is the To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly Sec­re­tary in charges of quar­ries.

It was re­cent­ly an­nounced that James was among 11 mem­bers who were ap­point­ed to the board to over­see the Stud­ley Park Quar­ry op­er­a­tions. Board mem­bers will serve for a year.

Fol­low­ing the ap­point­ment, Sec­re­tary of In­fra­struc­ture, Quar­ries and Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment Trevor James said the new board called the Stud­ley Park En­ter­pris­es Lim­it­ed Board has been man­dat­ed to bring the quar­ry’s op­er­a­tions to a point where sub­stan­tial in­creas­es and pro­duc­tiv­i­ty are re­alised.

Trevor and Win­ford are broth­ers.

The ap­point­ment of Win­ford to the board over­see­ing the quar­ry’s op­er­a­tions, when his broth­er heads the di­vi­sion un­der which quar­ries fall, has prompt­ed con­cerns.

Yes­ter­day, how­ev­er, Win­ford James said there was no con­flict of in­ter­est and noth­ing to feel un­com­fort­able about in the sit­u­a­tion. He said the ques­tion peo­ple should be ask­ing is whether a per­son was qual­i­fied for a post.
