Guardian Me­dia's weath­er an­chor, Kalain Ho­sein, was award­ed for Ex­cel­lence in Cli­mate Re­port­ing from In­ternews.

The award comes af­ter Ho­sein walked away with five awards at the Caribbean Broad­cast­ing Union's 2022 Caribbean Me­dia Awards in An­tigua and Bar­bu­da, last Au­gust.

Kalain has cham­pi­oned cli­mate re­port­ing across the Caribbean and was rec­go­nised by In­ternews for his im­mense con­tri­bu­tion.

Writ­ing on his Face­book page, Ho­sein said:

"Earth Jour­nal­ism Net­work’s sup­port with their CCMP fel­low­ship and the op­por­tu­ni­ties I had at COP27 changed the tra­jec­to­ry of my jour­nal­ism ca­reer, and I’ll be for­ev­er thank­ful for that."

He added, "Di­rect­ly as a re­sult of my sto­ries at COP27, I was placed on the map in the Caribbean as a lead­ing voice on cli­mate change in the re­gion be­cause, for many, it was the first time sev­er­al is­lands saw their coun­try’s name or vil­lage in a cli­mate change sto­ry, and it wasn’t af­ter a dev­as­tat­ing hur­ri­cane."

His state­ment con­clud­ed by say­ing, "I’ve met won­der­ful peo­ple and gained so much knowl­edge from their train­ing and men­tor­ship, both with the CCMP fel­low­ship and now their in­au­gur­al year-long fel­low­ship that has on­ly served to em­bold­en my cause, cham­pi­oning the sto­ries of not on­ly im­pacts, but so­lu­tions, to a cri­sis we all face."
