Guardian Media's weather anchor, Kalain Hosein, was awarded for Excellence in Climate Reporting from Internews.
The award comes after Hosein walked away with five awards at the Caribbean Broadcasting Union's 2022 Caribbean Media Awards in Antigua and Barbuda, last August.
Kalain has championed climate reporting across the Caribbean and was recgonised by Internews for his immense contribution.
Writing on his Facebook page, Hosein said:
"Earth Journalism Network’s support with their CCMP fellowship and the opportunities I had at COP27 changed the trajectory of my journalism career, and I’ll be forever thankful for that."
He added, "Directly as a result of my stories at COP27, I was placed on the map in the Caribbean as a leading voice on climate change in the region because, for many, it was the first time several islands saw their country’s name or village in a climate change story, and it wasn’t after a devastating hurricane."
His statement concluded by saying, "I’ve met wonderful people and gained so much knowledge from their training and mentorship, both with the CCMP fellowship and now their inaugural year-long fellowship that has only served to embolden my cause, championing the stories of not only impacts, but solutions, to a crisis we all face."
