Two months after her rescue from an abandoned beach house in Rampanalgas, Toco, kidnap victim Jankie Karim has publicly thanked the T&T Police Service (TTPS) for their efforts in ensuring her safe recovery.
During a meeting with Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro yesterday, the mother of one presented him with an engraved glass plaque, expressing her gratitude for the officers’ dedication to her case.
Karim, of Bassie Street Extension, Spring Village, Valsayn, spent eight days at the mercy of her kidnappers before several specialist units, acting on information, stormed a house along the Toco Main Road and rescued her. One of the kidnappers was killed during the operation.
Seated next to her husband, Karim handed over the plaque, which read: “Presented to Allister Guevarro and the TTPS in appreciation of your prompt, professional response and service in my safe recovery. My family and I thank you sincerely. May God continue to bless and protect all of the TTPS. Jankie Karim.”
In a video posted to the TTPS Facebook page, Karim said, “I hope that it don’t happen again because the experience was horrible.”
She offered words of encouragement to Guevarro, assuring him, “I know you will make things better with the country and make it a safer place.”
Responding, Guevarro noted that improving safety requires a collective effort.
“I need to get the assistance of everybody to be on board ... and once everybody is on board, we can get Trinidad back to that place,” he said.
