The autopsy of two-year-old Kymani Francis is taking place today at the Forensic Sciences Centre in St James.
Police investigators hope the findings will help them to determine what happened to the toddler after he wandered away from his Techier Village, Point Fortin home earlier this week. Less than 24 hours later, the child's body was found in the Guapo river near his home.
Homicide investigators were last night interviewing a man who confessed to killing Kymani. The man, who has been described as mentally ill, walked into the Point Fortin police station on Thursday afternoon confessing to Kymani's murder. He was detained and is being interrogated.
Officers say the results of the autopsy today is crucial to the circumstances surrounding the child's death.
