A 34-year-old labourer is dead and his 19-year-old girlfriend injured after being shot near their San Fernando home on Sunday night.
Police said that Jesse Jacob died within minutes of being shot along Martin Prime Street, St John Village where he lived.
A report stated that around 8 pm, Jacob was driving his vehicle with Sapphire Jugoon in the front passenger seat and a friend in the rear passenger seat. Investigators said he was on his way to take a friend home when on nearing the corner at Cipero Road, two gunmen opened fire on the car. Jacob was shot a few times on his upper body while Jugoon was struck in both legs. The gunmen then ran off, leaving their victims behind.
Neighbours called the police, but by the time they arrived, Jacob was already dead. Jugoon was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
Jacob’s friend was not injured and is assisting police with investigations.
The Southern Division police led by Snr Supt Zamsheed Mohammed and ASP Ali Mohammed along with detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, including ASP Steve Persad, Cpl Bridgemohan and WPC Valdez responded to the scene.
A search was carried out for the gunmen, but up to this morning, the suspects were not found.
