Though it’s been mostly sunny across much of Trinidad this morning, heavy showers associated with the Intertropical Convergence Zone persisted across Tobago since 5:00 AM Wednesday.

These heavy showers produced gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. According to reports from the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), flooding was reported in Mason Hall in the vicinity of Paige Gully.

A landslide also occurred at Broad Road, Moriah on the Northside Road, which has completely blocked and rendered the roadway impassable Wednesday morning. Tobago’s Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and Environment (DIQE) was on the scene to clear the road. TEMA advised motorists and pedestrians to proceed with caution in this area.

The Adverse Weather Alert

At 6:00 AM Wednesday, the Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) went into effect, as periods of showers and thunderstorms are forecast to affect both islands through 6:00 PM Thursday. Street and flash flooding, gusty winds and landslides are the main hazards.

By the late morning, through the afternoon today, showers and thunderstorms are forecast to move across Trinidad as well as Tobago, interrupting partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies.
