The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has confirmed the occurrence of a landslip along Fort George Road, St. James, near The Battery. A section of the roadway has been affected, and motorists and commuters have been asked to exercise caution when using the route.
The Ministry stated that Fort George Road does not fall under its purview but is under the direct responsibility of the Port of Spain City Corporation. Despite this, the Ministry indicated its willingness to provide technical support to assist the Corporation in addressing the situation.
On Thursday, a team of technical experts from the Ministry visited the site to conduct a preliminary assessment of the slope failure. The visit included discussions on immediate and interim measures to safeguard residents and road users. Options for longer-term stabilisation works to restore the roadway were also considered.
The Ministry said it remains prepared to collaborate with the Port of Spain City Corporation to implement stabilisation interventions. The shared objective is to restore safe and reliable access along Fort George Road.
The public has been asked to remain guided by official advisories as steps are taken to address the impact of the landslip.
