A Laventille man died during a fatal road accident in Tobago on Thursday night, after the car he was driving crashed and flipped, causing him to be ejected. The vehicle then landed on him.
Daijon Cordner, 21, died at the scene while his female companion, a 20-year-old woman of Buccoo New Road, Buccoo, was severely injured after she was also thrown from the car.
Cordner was reportedly driving a white AD Wagon, heading east along the Claude Noel Highway, when upon reaching the Light and Life Pentecostal High School, the vehicle picked up a skid.
It was claimed Cordner lost control of the vehicle and collided with a drain on the northern side of the road, which caused the car to flip and led to both occupants being ejected.
The car landed top of Cordner, killing him on the spot.
Passing motorists alerted the authorities.
The injured woman was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital, where she was treated and warded in a stable condition.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene and ordered Cordner’s body removed to the Scarborough Mortuary, pending an autopsy.
