A 20-year-old man from Longdenville was killed after being hit by a car while attempting to cross the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway in Chaguanas, early yesterday morning.
According to reports, around 12.50 am, Brian Lalla and his 18-year-old brother Jeremiah Maharaj, both of Cashew Gardens, Longdenville, were attempting to cross the highway near Mid-Centre Mall.
The siblings were returning home after liming together at a bar where they consumed several alcoholic beverages.
Lalla was struck by a Nissan Almera while crossing the north-bound lane, while his brother escaped unscathed.
He was taken to Chaguanas District Health Facility but died while receiving treatment.
The 39-year-old driver of the vehicle from St Mary’s Village, South Oropouche, stopped to render assistance.
He told police officers that Lalla ran into his vehicle’s path and he could not slow down or swerve to avoid colliding with him.
The driver was released by police pending further investigations.
