A police constable escaped with his life during a shooting last night in St Ann's after a bullet from bandits struck his walkie-talkie.
The incident around 11.05 pm, occurred at Fondes Amandes.
Officers of the Joint Operations Task Force were on mobile patrol when they received a report that armed men were seen in the St Ann's area.
The party of officers including PCs Mc Alister and Marshall along with soldiers George responded.
It was claimed that upon arrival, the lawmen spotted a group of men who ran towards a forested area.
As the officers gave chase, one of the suspects allegedly fired at them.
PC Mc Alister who was wearing a bulletproof vest with a walkie-talkie attached, was struck.
The bullet struck the walkie talkie which prevented further penetration.
The officers returned fire and summoned back up. Members of the Port-of-Spain Task Force and the Inter-Agency Task Force responded and the area was searched but the assailants were not found.
However, they recovered a loaded revolver.
PC Mc Alister was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor bruising on the left side of his torso under the left rib cage.
He was later discharged in a stable condition.
ASP Narine along with Insp Brathwaite and PCs Phillip and Cyril visited the scene.
