A man narrowly escaped with his life yesterday after a flatbed trailer collided with his Hilux truck as they squeezed past each other in the vicinity of Tembladora along the Western Main Road, Chaguaramas.
Lee Osborne Gore, 45, had to be rescued by fire officers who used the jaws of life to free him from the mangled wreck.
As an ambulance belonging to the T&T Defence Force (TTDF) responded around 11 am, the victim was rushed to the St James Infirmary where he was treated for slight lacerations to the right shoulder.
As motorists slowed to take pictures and record the wreckage which remained on the road up to 1.30 pm yesterday—many expressed relief that Gore’s life had been spared. As video recordings of the accident began circulating across social media, members of the public questioned if the transport truck driven by a 30-year-old man of Harmony Hall, Gasparillo—had been provided with a police escort and if not, why.
Mervyn Wade wrote: “That corner there lil tricky. You never see what’s coming at you until its too late.”
Drew Berry questioned: “Where was the escort?? The trailer is on half the other side.”
Mark Hosein queried: “Did that extra long trailer with heavy load have a police escort?”
Meanwhile, Ann Morris urged motorists: “Slow down people.”
