Soca star Machel Montano, who released his 45th album as well as his 2019 Road March contender on Thursday night, said he is doing things bigger and better.
Commenting on the launch and listening party, which took place at The Residence Restaurant and Bar at One Woodbrook Place, he said: “We thought we should have a release party and let people know that we do have a 20 song album this Carnival.”
In an interview on CNC3’s The Morning Brew yesterday, Montano his new 20-song album is aimed at forging relationships as many of the tracks were collaborations with various regional and international artists, including Calypso Rose, Skinny Fabulous from St. Vincent and American singer and songwriter, Ashanti.
“I’m building the relationships and the distribution channels to show people the togetherness of soca,” he said, adding that it is in keeping with his new mission of releasing “soca to the Universe”.
Thursday night’s release party was modelled after those done internationally but Montano added a local twist by opening to his Road March contender.
After belting out some more lines he said that he should not be singing as it was a listening party. However, he continued singing along to the tracks for the tightly packed crowd at the venue
Montano then performed the first song on his album, Toco Loco.
The album is available on iTunes for download.
