A Maloney family is on edge as a hole filled with water, that no longer reaches its taps continues to erode the curb near its property.
The hole, which is located at the corner of Toucan Crescent, first emerged on July 4. It has become filled with water that residents have dubbed it a “swimming pool.”
“A little less than two months ago, a hole, a small hole developed on the side on the curb outside my house. We had I should say almost immediate response from WASA. They came and they worked very hard over the weekend to dig and to repair but that repair did not last,” said the resident who asked not to be identified.
The hole returned, this time with water rushing through its cracks. Almost simultaneously, the water running to houses around the hole slowed to a trickle.
This has created a bigger headache for the residents who are currently on a water restriction.
“Now it is a lot worse than it was before, currently my water situation is affected badly. There are others around here whose water supply is also affected,” said the resident who complained that her tanks have gone empty since the hole outside her home emerged almost six weeks ago.
“The schedule we have Monday, Wednesday, Friday. The days that we are supposed to have water the swimming pool is a lot fuller, there is a lot more water running down the drains in the times we are asked not to wash with hoses and wet plants with hoses and so on a lot of water going down the drain,” said the resident.
They have since contacted WASA about the situation but did not receive the prompt response they got before.
With the hole growing bigger by the day, the resident is growing in worry.
“I just want that situation fixed because my other concern is we don’t know where the water is going to. At the end of the day will my property be affected negatively. We don’t know where the water is going so is it going under my property. It’s a safety issue for me as well,” said the resident.
Communication Manager for the Water and Sewerage Authority Daniel Plenty confirmed that a report was made concerning the hole. He said a crew was expected to address the issue by the end of the week.
