A sil­ver Beretta pis­tol with two rounds of nine-mil­lime­tre am­mu­ni­tion and one ex­tend­ed mag­a­zine were re­cov­ered at the scene of a po­lice-in­volved shoot­ing in San­ta Cruz yes­ter­day evening. 

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, around 10:05 pm on Fri­day, of­fi­cers act­ing on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, rel­a­tive to sev­er­al shoot­ing in­ci­dents in the area, pro­ceed­ed to San­ta Cruz to ex­e­cute a search war­rant for firearms and am­mu­ni­tion at a home in Moral­do Trace. 

In a me­dia re­lease, the TTPS said of­fi­cers ap­proached the res­i­dence, which is sit­u­at­ed at the top of a hill, from dif­fer­ent di­rec­tions in an at­tempt to sur­round the house. 

It said while do­ing so, they ob­served a man walk­ing to­wards them hold­ing a gun in his right hand. 

One of the of­fi­cers re­port­ed­ly in­struct­ed the man to stop, how­ev­er, the man al­leged­ly shot at them. 

The po­lice said "the oth­er of­fi­cer, be­liev­ing he was in im­mi­nent dan­ger and in keep­ing with the TTPS Use of Force Pol­i­cy, dis­charged his ser­vice 

firearm in the di­rec­tion of the sus­pect who be­gan to run in the op­po­site di­rec­tion to­wards an­oth­er group of of­fi­cers ap­proach­ing from the oth­er side of the house." 

They again re­port­ed­ly in­struct­ed the sus­pect to stop and drop the gun but he al­leged­ly fired at them as well. 

"Two of­fi­cers, be­liev­ing their lives were in dan­ger, both dis­charged the r ser­vice firearms in the man’s di­rec­tion. He sub­se­quent­ly fell to the ground and was ob­served to be suf­fer­ing from gun­shot wounds," po­lice said. 

The firearm was re­cov­ered, and the sus­pect was tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex where he was pro­nounced dead. 

He was iden­ti­fied as 21-year-old An­to­nio Matthews al­so known as “To­toman”. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
