A 41-year-old con­struc­tion labour­er was grant­ed bail with a sure­ty in the sum of $50,000 when he ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Alexan­der Prince at the Cou­va Mag­is­trates’ Court on Tues­day, af­ter he was charged with sex­u­al touch­ing of a child.

He is ex­pect­ed to reap­pear in court on Wednes­day 1st March, 2023.

Po­lice re­ports stat­ed that on 31st De­cem­ber, 2021 a 10-year-old girl was at home in her bed­room play­ing with her broth­er, it’s al­leged that a male rel­a­tive came in­to the bed­room and be­gan play­ing with the girl and her broth­er, dur­ing the play the girl was in­ap­pro­pri­ate­ly sex­u­al­ly touched by the rel­a­tive.

She lat­er con­fid­ed in her moth­er, who re­port­ed the mat­ter to the Child Pro­tec­tion Unit Cen­tral Di­vi­sion.

The mat­ter was in­ves­ti­gat­ed, which led to the ar­rest and charge of the ac­cused on 31st Jan­u­ary. 2023.
