A man who false­ly claimed he was robbed by three armed men will serve 30 days of hard labour for wast­ing po­lice time.

Andy Ra­jku­mar ini­tial­ly told po­lice he was the vic­tim of a rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion in­volv­ing three sus­pects, one armed with a firearm.

On No­vem­ber 14, 2024, PC Lutch­man of the Tu­na­puna CID con­duct­ed in­ves­ti­ga­tions, ar­rest­ed, and in­ter­viewed the sus­pects. All three pro­vid­ed al­i­bis.

Fur­ther ques­tion­ing of Ra­jku­mar re­vealed he fab­ri­cat­ed the en­tire in­ci­dent. He ad­mit­ted the sus­pects nev­er robbed him and that his re­port was false.

Ra­jku­mar ap­peared be­fore Se­nior Mag­is­trate Ramoo Haynes at the Tu­na­puna Third Mag­is­trates’ Court and was charged with the waste­ful em­ploy­ment of po­lice time.
