Twenty-nine-year-old Jason Joseph, also known as Ansil Joseph and Antonio David, was charged with two counts of robbery with aggravation and possession of three rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition.
He is scheduled to appear at the Mayaro Magistrates’ Court today.
According to police reports, the incident allegedly took place on January 16th around 3.55 pm when two male suspects, one-armed, ran into a residence in Leisureville, Mayaro, and announced a robbery. After allegedly relieving the occupants of the home of a quantity of cash and jewellery, and a Samsung cell phone, they escaped on foot into some nearby bushes.
The victims raised an alarm and neighbours pursued the men, apprehending one of the suspects. Police were contacted and officers of the Mayaro Police Station arrived on the scene and apprehended the suspect. He was searched at the police station and three rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition, $2,762, and a Samsung A10 cell phone were allegedly found.
The suspect and cell phone were positively identified by one of the victims. Officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department (CID), under the supervision of Ag Sgt Bhim, conducted enquiries. Joseph was subsequently charged with the offences by PC Jaikaran.
