A 22-year-old man is in critical but stable condition after he was shot on Sunday night.

Police said the man was travelling in a white Nissan Tiida with a 40-year-old man on the Lady Young Road, Morvant, at around 11 pm when they noticed a gold Toyota NZE car drive alongside them.

A man got out of the gold Toyota and shot at both men as they got out of the car and ran into Pitch Road.

The gunman got back in the car and drove off.

One of the men felt a burning in his lower back and realised he was bleeding.

He was taken to hospital where he received emergency surgery last night.

Officers of the North Eastern Division Crime Scene Investigation Unit visited the scene and found 19 spent 5.56 shells.
