The owner of a trucking company was crushed to death after the vehicle fell on him on Saturday.
Robert Cupid, of Santa Cruz, the owner of Lounick Transport was doing mechanical repairs to one of his 10-tonne trucks when the accident occurred.
His son, Nicholas, who witnessed the incident, with the help of other workers used a crane to pry the truck off and pull his father’s body out.
The injured man was taken to a medical facility but died while undergoing emergency treatment. The incident occurred shortly after 1 pm.
Cupid and his father operated the business and very well-known to the community of Santa Cruz.
Over the past two days, several people have offered their sympathies to the Cupid family many of them remembering the “good deeds” of the businessman.
One person posted a message to Nicholas on his Facebook page: “Let the legacy continue,” “My condolences again Nicholas, but I know that you will represent well cause you are certainly your father’s son and will continue on well in his footsteps! Your father did a great job while he was here and brought you up to be the same way...So chest up son, your job has just begun...let the legacy continue.”
Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.
