An 80-year-old man was able to call for the help of police officers at a gas station, after being beaten and kidnapped by his landlord on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the elderly man was at his El Socorro apartment at around 1.30 pm when he was confronted by the landlord who he said began “harassing him.”
An argument began as the landlord then beat the victim with a wooden broom handle.
Police said the man was forced into his landlord’s car and driven to a gas station on Cyrus Road, where he was ordered to withdraw $1000 from the ATM.
However on reaching the gas station, the elderly man noticed police officers nearby, as he got out of the car and called for help.
The officers questioned the landlord and arrested him.
The 43-year-old suspect remained in custody at the Barataria Police Station up to Thursday morning.
Officers of the Barataria CID visited the apartment and photographed the scene, seizing the wooden broom handle believed to have been used in the assault.
