A 45-year-old man was gunned down at his St Au­gus­tine car care busi­ness yes­ter­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said Kester Reid was at the Ter­mi­nal Ser­vice Cen­tre on Evans Street, St Au­gus­tine, at 2.35 pm when he was ap­proached by a gun­man who shot him sev­er­al times.

The gun­man then walked over Reid’s body, shoot­ing him again, be­fore run­ning away.

Passers-by called the po­lice and of­fi­cers from the North-Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force and the St Joseph CID vis­it­ed the scene with a dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer, who de­clared Reid dead.

Po­lice from the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion II al­so vis­it­ed the scene.

Po­lice said Reid was not known to them and did not have any crim­i­nal record.

Sources said Reid was well known in the com­mu­ni­ty and was op­er­at­ing the busi­ness for some time as he was good at au­to elec­tri­cal work in par­tic­u­lar.

No mo­tive has been es­tab­lished for the mur­der.

Reid’s killing brought the mur­der toll for 2023 to 516, com­pared to 542 for the same pe­ri­od last year.
