A San Fernando man who went to collect a car which he had rented to someone was shot dead in South Oropouche early yesterday morning.
Investigators believe Dwayne Reid’s murder had something to do with the car.
Reid, 42, of Circular Drive, was a part-time PH driver and KFC driver and also rented vehicles.
Investigators were told that around 1.30 am, Reid went to the home of a friend at St John Road, South Oropouche, and asked him to accompany him to collect one of his vehicles at Mitchell Street, South Oropouche.
His friend dropped him off at Mitchell Street and he (Reid) walked into a road.
Just as Reid came out of the street driving a gold Nissan Tiida, his friend heard a male voice shout ‘where yuh going with that car’ and heard several loud explosions. The friend drove to the police station and made a report.
When the police went to the scene, they saw the car crashed on the side of the road with the left passenger window shattered and Reid slumped over the passenger seat.
Visiting the scene were officers of the Homicide Bureau Region 3 and South Western Division.
Investigations are continuing.
In an unrelated incident, the decomposing body of a 61-year-old man was found at his Penal home on Sunday. Vivian Mathura was last seen alive by his relatives at his Pluck Road, San Francique home around 8 am on August 8.
The body was discovered after Mathura’s cousin Mark went to his home around 10.30 am and detected a stench coming from inside the house.
He called out to Mathura but got no reply. He then opened the front door and saw Mathura’s body on the floor of the bathroom. He called the police. The district Medical Officer viewed the body and it was taken to a funeral home pending an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre in Port- of-Spain.
PC Gellizeaue of the Penal Police Station is investigating.
