A man iden­ti­fied on­ly as “Jay” was shot and killed dur­ing a sus­pect­ed rob­bery in Arou­ca ear­ly this morn­ing.

Po­lice said the in­ci­dent hap­pened around 12:30 am on Sun­set Dri­ve, off First Street, Five Rivers. Of­fi­cers on pa­trol along the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route were alert­ed by a man who re­port­ed the shoot­ing and took them to the scene.

There, they found Jay ly­ing face down in a pool of blood near house num­ber 87. He had gun­shot wounds to the head and ab­domen.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors were told that around 11:30 pm on Mon­day, Jay and his em­ploy­er were walk­ing along Sun­set Dri­ve when they passed a group of four men. The men re­port­ed­ly at­tacked and beat them. The em­ploy­er, who sus­tained mi­nor head in­juries, said he ran from the scene and while flee­ing heard sev­er­al gun­shots and Jay shout­ing, “I get shoot.”

The body was lat­er re­moved to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre for a post mortem.
