A 53-year-old Cumuto man was found shot dead at the side of the road on Christmas Eve.
Police reported that around 7.10 am on Sunday, the body of Sirujbally Samaroo, of Nicaragua Road, Cumuto, was found near his home with what appeared to bullet wounds to his head and chest.
Police said three spent shells were found near his body, which police said they were alerted to by an anonymous caller.
In an unrelated incident, the decomposing body of a man was found floating in the Caroni River on Sunday.
Police reported that around 3.15 pm, officers from the St Joseph Police Station responded to the report of a body found in the river.
The man, of African descent, was bareback and wearing a black long pants.
The body was later removed with the assistance from the San Juan Fire Station.
Anyone with information on the identity of the man is asked to contact the St Joseph Police Station.

Two people have been arrested in relation to a car stealing ring, after four stolen cars were recovered near a house in Thomas Trace, Arouca.
Police reported that around 5 am yesterday, officers, after conducting surveillance on the house, arrested the two and seized two Nissan AD Wagons, a Nissan Versa, and one Nissan Tiida.
The two suspects, a 54-year-old from Thomas Trace, Arouca, and a 24-year-old from Oropune Gardens, Piarco, were arrested.
Police also seized three kilograms of marijuana during an anti-crime operation in San Juan on December 22.
Police said during Operation Blue Line, while on Blanc Street, officers observed a group of men who ran off on seeing the police.
The officers chased after them but they escaped through a bushy area. The officers searched the area and found two black, plastic handle bags containing five brick-like packages, wrapped in tape, containing marijuana. The narcotics were seized and conveyed to the San Juan Police Station.
