A 53-year-old Cu­mu­to man was found shot dead at the side of the road on Christ­mas Eve.

Po­lice re­port­ed that around 7.10 am on Sun­day, the body of Siru­jbal­ly Sama­roo, of Nicaragua Road, Cu­mu­to, was found near his home with what ap­peared to bul­let wounds to his head and chest.

Po­lice said three spent shells were found near his body, which po­lice said they were alert­ed to by an anony­mous caller.

In an un­re­lat­ed in­ci­dent, the de­com­pos­ing body of a man was found float­ing in the Ca­roni Riv­er on Sun­day.

Po­lice re­port­ed that around 3.15 pm, of­fi­cers from the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion re­spond­ed to the re­port of a body found in the riv­er.

The man, of African de­scent, was bare­back and wear­ing a black long pants.

The body was lat­er re­moved with the as­sis­tance from the San Juan Fire Sta­tion.

Any­one with in­for­ma­tion on the iden­ti­ty of the man is asked to con­tact the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion.

Two peo­ple have been ar­rest­ed in re­la­tion to a car steal­ing ring, af­ter four stolen cars were re­cov­ered near a house in Thomas Trace, Arou­ca.

Po­lice re­port­ed that around 5 am yes­ter­day, of­fi­cers, af­ter con­duct­ing sur­veil­lance on the house, ar­rest­ed the two and seized two Nis­san AD Wag­ons, a Nis­san Ver­sa, and one Nis­san Ti­i­da.

The two sus­pects, a 54-year-old from Thomas Trace, Arou­ca, and a 24-year-old from Orop­une Gar­dens, Pi­ar­co, were ar­rest­ed.

Po­lice al­so seized three kilo­grams of mar­i­jua­na dur­ing an an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion in San Juan on De­cem­ber 22.

Po­lice said dur­ing Op­er­a­tion Blue Line, while on Blanc Street, of­fi­cers ob­served a group of men who ran off on see­ing the po­lice.

The of­fi­cers chased af­ter them but they es­caped through a bushy area. The of­fi­cers searched the area and found two black, plas­tic han­dle bags con­tain­ing five brick-like pack­ages, wrapped in tape, con­tain­ing mar­i­jua­na. The nar­cotics were seized and con­veyed to the San Juan Po­lice Sta­tion.
