Police believe robbery is the motive in the murder of Clyde Dennis, whose body was found near his burnt van outside the Roodal Cemetery in San Fernando Saturday.
Dennis, 46, of Macaulay, Claxton Bay, was shot once by an armed bandit along Circle Drive, Embacadere. A resident reported to police that she heard a commotion outside her house around 4.30 am but did not think it was anything serious. A short time later, she heard a gunshot followed by a crashing sound. When residents looked out, they saw a white van on fire and contacted San Fernando police and the Mon Repos fire station. It was after firefighters extinguished the blaze that they saw Dennis’ body lying on the roadside, about 20 feet away from the van.
Investigators believe that a bandit attempted to rob Dennis, who tried to escape but fell out the van. The van rolled into the cemetery wall and burst into flames.
Investigators from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three and the Southern Division Crime Scene Unit interviewed residents and processed the scene. No one has since been held for the murder. An autopsy on Dennis' body is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre on Monday.
