RHONDOR DOWLAT-ROSTANT
A 57-year-old man was arrested by police officers after he went on a rampage at the home of his ex-wife, destroying several items and laying threats against her and their children, on Sunday.
According to a police report, at about 7:30 pm, the alleged offender (of Basta Hall Village Couva and Plum Mitan Village, Biche) went to the home of his ex-wife in Basta Hall Village, Couva, roughly 200 metres away from his home. There, he had an altercation with several other family members including his ex-wife, his daughter and son in law. At the time he was armed with a cutlass and caused damage to the front and rear windscreen of a silver Nissan Almera. The suspect reportedly had chopped it, causing damage to the extent of $1,500. He also reportedly made threats to kill the family members.
The man is said to have left the location and returned ten minutes later, armed with a firearm, making further threats to kill; however, he was disarmed by his ex-wife.
Officers of the Couva CID and the Central Division Task Force Area South responded and met with the victims, who later handed over a revolver and five bullets that had been taken from the man.
The officers then went to the alleged offender's home where he was arrested, and a quantity of pellets and a cutlass found in his possession were seized.
Police said he was unable to provide the relevant documents for the pellets.
Police say the man is a known drug and sex offender and has two outstanding warrants on file.
He currently is in police custody.
