Police are trying to identify a man whose decomposing body was found floating in the St Joseph River yesterday, as investigators work to determine how he died.
Reports indicate that an employee of Nestlé Trinidad Ltd spotted the body in the water around noon and alerted the police. The corpse was retrieved from the river, but preliminary investigations found no identifiable tattoos or birthmarks that could assist in identifying the victim.
Senior police officers said they were unable to determine how long the man had been in the water and that checks were underway to establish whether he matched the profile of anyone reported missing.
Officers were also unable to say whether there were any visible signs of violence on the body and are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination for further evidence.
Investigations are ongoing.
