The Islamic Home for Children in Gasparillo received a significant boost thanks to a generous donation from Marubeni Power International Inc.

The donation of US$8,000, or just over TT$54,000, was made as part of Marubeni’s ongoing annual commitment to social welfare in Trinidad & Tobago, which funds initiatives that support education, child welfare, the elderly, and the environment.

On Tuesday, the Marubeni Executives toured the Home, previewing the planned upgrades. The Home’s Board of Directors indicated its goal of enhancing the Home’s self-sufficiency through several upcoming projects, including expanding agricultural activities and building a trade skills centre on the property.

In operation for 36 years, the Islamic Home for Children is a non-profit organisation that provides shelter, holistic care and protection for underprivileged, socially displaced and at-risk youth. The Home’s facilities occupy approximately two acres of land with two separate buildings housing up to 20 boys and girls.

“At Marubeni, we believe in investing in the future of the local communities, and that starts with the children,” said Mo Majeed, Chief Operating Officer, Marubeni Power International, Inc and Managing Director, Caribbean. “We’re especially honoured to play a part in supporting the excellent work being done at the Islamic Home for Children, during this holy month of Ramadan. This home provides a haven, where the children who are most in need are offered protection and love in a safe and comfortable home.”

Headquartered in Japan, the Marubeni Corporation has offices in 67 countries and employs 45,000 people around the world.
