Massy Stores has introduced a new self-checkout service at its Marabella location. The service aims to offer customers "more control, convenience and speedier service designed to enhance the customer shopping experience." This is the seventh Massy Stores location in the supermarket chain to introduce the new self-checkout units.
Speaking at the launch where several customers were treated to a lively in-store experience, Leslie Ann Edwards, Store Manager said the new technology will transform the shopping experience in Marabella and at other locations where the units will be installed “The new self-check outs will allow customers to cash their own groceries which will expedite the transaction as fast as possible so you don’t have to stand in line and you proceed at your own pace.”
She continued, “It’s easy to use, proceed to the self-checkout, scan your Massy Card and then select the number of bags which will be used, or you can use your Massy recyclable bag, click “Start” and then start scanning your groceries. If there is something which was not scanned, the system will alert you. We have attendants standing by to assist customers who choose to use the self-checkout unit, and once the transaction is completed, you can press “Total” and pay with either debit or credit cards. We have four self-checkout units in total.”
The Massy Stores Marabella location offers customers a full-service option where they can shop and make purchases at the Massy Stores Pharmacy, Ferriera Optical, TrinPad, Spiked Café and Glorious Bodies Glorious Minds Spa.
During the launch of the new self-checkout units, customers received samples and giveaways from Arcor, Catch, Duracell, Eve, Guiltless Yogurt, Hennessy, Klim, Lipton, Old El Paso and Soft and Pretty. DJ Ana and DJ Simmo provided live entertainment.
As the leader in the supermarket industry, Ms. Edwards noted that most Massy Stores locations will be outfitted with self-checkout units by the end of the year, and the next locations where the self-checkout units would be introduced are Diego Martin and Alyce Glen.
The new self-checkout technology is the result of a pilot programme implemented in Gulf View in 2018.
