One man was killed and a sawed-off shotgun seized during a police-involved shooting at the Guayaguayare Fishing Port in the Eastern Division on Monday morning.
Police said officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department (CID) received information about a man armed with a gun in the Guayaguayare district around 2 am on October 27.
On arrival, the officers observed the man run into a wooden structure and retrieve an object that appeared to be a firearm from under a bed. He allegedly pointed the weapon at the officers, and several clicking sounds were heard.
Officers gave verbal commands for him to drop the gun, but he did not comply. In line with the Use of Force Policy, they discharged their firearms, hitting the man.
He was taken to the Mayaro Health Facility for treatment, where he later died. The deceased has been identified as Ainsley Glenn Gonzales of Calmapas Village, Mayaro.
A sawed-off shotgun was recovered from the scene.
