The Ministry of Works and Transport is working very hard to ensure that the country’s roads are maintained says Works Minister Rohan Sinanan.
“I can say right now at the PURE unit alone we have 86 road rehabilitation projects ongoing. As we speak we have another 15 to 20 to start in the next two weeks. Road repairs are an ongoing process and at the ministry, once the funding is available, we try our best to ensure that we maintain the road. There are five additional bridges to be completed in the next month or so,” he said on Saturday at the commissioning of the Peytonville Bridge off Kelly Drive, Arima.
This reconstructed bridge will significantly improve the flow of traffic for motorists and residents in the community, reduce flooding in the area, and will provide improved safety for pedestrians.
The new bridge was completed in less than four months at the cost of $1.5 million.
Rohan explained that in the past the bridge had collapsed but poor work was done to try to rectify it.
“It may seem like a small project but it was a challenging project because of the fact that the previous Tunapuna Corporation took a decision in 2013 to cover the old bridge. That posed a lot of challenges. We did work on the watercourse and built back the walkways for the residents so that they can access their houses over the watercourse.”
