Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter Stu­art Young has signed an his­toric Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing (MoU) with stake­hold­ers in the en­er­gy sec­tor, on be­half of the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty.

A state­ment from the min­istry said the MoU seeks to for­malise ex­ist­ing se­cu­ri­ty arrange­ments be­tween the Gov­ern­ment and En­er­gy Sec­tor com­pa­nies as well as strength­en re­la­tions by pro­vid­ing a frame­work for the shar­ing of se­cu­ri­ty re­lat­ed in­for­ma­tion.

It said the agree­ment aims to bol­ster co­op­er­a­tion and safe­guard the sec­tor from the var­i­ous threats it faces.

Sign­ing the Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing y were: The Na­tion­al Gas Com­pa­ny of Trinidad and To­ba­go (NGC); At­lantic LNG Com­pa­ny of Trinidad and To­ba­go; Point Lisas In­dus­tri­al Port De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion Lim­it­ed; Na­tion­al En­er­gy Cor­po­ra­tion of Trinidad and To­ba­go; De­N­o­vo En­er­gy Lim­it­ed; Trinidad and To­ba­go Elec­tric­i­ty Com­mis­sion (T&TEC); The Pow­er Gen­er­a­tion Com­pa­ny of Trinidad and To­ba­go Lim­it­ed; YARA Trinidad Lim­it­ed; and the Na­tion­al Pe­tro­le­um Mar­ket­ing Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed (NP).

The state­ment said the MoU is a prod­uct of the En­er­gy Sec­tor Se­cu­ri­ty Ini­tia­tives (ES­SI), a Pub­lic Pri­vate Sec­tor part­ner­ship un­der the aegis of the min­istry of na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty and the Min­istry of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries.

It was es­tab­lished with the prin­ci­pal fo­cus on crit­i­cal en­er­gy in­fra­struc­ture pro­tec­tion by cre­at­ing a sus­tain­able mech­a­nism to pre­vent, mit­i­gate, pre­pare for, re­spond to an re­cov­er from all pos­si­ble threats and vul­ner­a­bil­i­ties which have been the po­ten­tial to dis­rupt T&T’s en­er­gy sec­tor.
