National Security Minister Stuart Young has signed an historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with stakeholders in the energy sector, on behalf of the Ministry of National Security.
A statement from the ministry said the MoU seeks to formalise existing security arrangements between the Government and Energy Sector companies as well as strengthen relations by providing a framework for the sharing of security related information.
It said the agreement aims to bolster cooperation and safeguard the sector from the various threats it faces.
Signing the Memorandum of Understanding y were: The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC); Atlantic LNG Company of Trinidad and Tobago; Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation Limited; National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago; DeNovo Energy Limited; Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC); The Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited; YARA Trinidad Limited; and the National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP).
The statement said the MoU is a product of the Energy Sector Security Initiatives (ESSI), a Public Private Sector partnership under the aegis of the ministry of national Security and the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries.
It was established with the principal focus on critical energy infrastructure protection by creating a sustainable mechanism to prevent, mitigate, prepare for, respond to an recover from all possible threats and vulnerabilities which have been the potential to disrupt T&T’s energy sector.
