Members of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) yesterday found the body of a missing man in a shallow grave at Mentor Alley, Laventille.
Diego Martin taxi driver Derek Constance, 30, of Gokool Street was reported missing to the police on October 28 by his common-law wife.
According to a police report, shortly after 2 pm residents reported a foul stench in the area.
Officers from the IATF responded but their search was limited because of a downpour of rain.
After the rain ceased, the officers returned to the area with cadaver dogs and found the shallow grave.
The decomposing body was eventually retrieved. It bore several gunshot wounds about the body, police said.
Constance’s common-law-wife described him to the police as mixed descent, five feet nine inches tall, slim built, with a brown complexion and a cornrow hairstyle.
She told them that he was last seen wearing a dark-coloured jersey, a pair of three-quarter blue pants and a pair of blue slippers. He also has a ‘Red Skull’ tattoo on his neck. Investigations are continuing.
