The Ministry of Health is observing ongoing trials internationally of vaccines in children younger than 12-years-old and will wait for the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) clearance before administration in the local population.
“There are vaccines that are under trial under 12 for example the Sinopharm vaccine which we have in Trinidad and Tobago, Pfizer vaccine and Moderna vaccine are being trialled at this point in time in different jurisdictions for use between the ages 3 and 17 years of age,” Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram said during a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
“The Sinopharm vaccine has also been given emergency use authorisation in China as well as the United Arab Emirates most recently and…is in the process of going before WHO for approval in that age group. Once of course WHO approves that then we will have that available for that particular age group and that vulnerable group of 3-17,” he said.
