Three housewives are among 15 people expected to appear before a San Fernando magistrate today charged with drunken driving. The women, along with 12 men, were arrested during an early morning police traffic exercise in San Fernando and La Romaine. Ten people were charged separate with using their cell phones while driving.
The exercise was co-ordinated by Senior Supt Deodath Dulalchan and ASP Zamsheed Mohammed, supervised by Sgt Changoor and conducted by Cpl Vijay Ramdhanie with the assistance of breath-technicians Pcs Sookhai, Mohammed and other officers. Officers conducted the exercise between the hours of 4 am and 10 am yesterday at various locations in San Fernando and along the South Trunk Road, La Romain. The 15 people charged with failing the breathalyser ranged between the ages of 22 to 40 and included four plant operators, three housewives, one technical officer, two businessmen and a security consultant.
