?Two more schools are reporting confirmed cases of the Influenza A/H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu. The two schools are Clarke Rochard Primary in Penal and Munroe Road Hindu in Chaguanas. Devant Maharaj, of The Indo-Trinbago Equality Council, (I-TEC) confirmed that the Hindu school yesterday reported the matter to the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha Education Board. Maharaj said the Board had advised teachers and parents to consider the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which speaks to working conditions and take the appropriate measures to protect themselves and their students.
World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines advise teachers, students and other staff, who fell ill, to stay at home. At the Clarke Rochard Primary School, Penal, yesterday, confirmation that a standard two student had contracted the disease, sent parents hurrying to remove their children from the compound. School officials confirmed that the parents of the sick child informed them yesterday morning that results of a test done on the pupil for the flu-like virus came back positive. Principal Surujwattie Ali subsequently met with the 37-member staff and held a meeting with the PTA.
