A 47-year-old Mor­vant man was gunned down af­ter a car stopped in front of his ve­hi­cle in Port-of-Spain ear­ly this morn­ing.

Po­lice said Wen­dell Walk­er alias 'Ja­mal' was dri­ving his grey Mer­cedes Benz on the east­bound lane of the Au­drey Jef­fers High­way, near the Wa­ter Taxi Ter­mi­nal around 1.10 am when a grey Maz­da 6 drove in front of his car block­ing him.

Two gun­men got out of the Maz­da and shot Walk­er sev­er­al times.

Of­fi­cers of the St Clair po­lice sta­tion re­ceived a re­port of gun­shots and took Walk­er to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he was de­clared dead.

Of­fi­cers of the Port-of-Spain Di­vi­sion and crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors vis­it­ed the scene and found 15 spent 9 mm shells and 18 spent 5.56 shells.

Walk­er's car was towed to the Spe­cial Ev­i­dence Re­cov­ery Unit (SERU) in Cu­mu­to for fur­ther analy­sis.

Po­lice said they re­ceived fur­ther in­for­ma­tion that Walk­er may have shot back at his killers dur­ing the at­tack but did not find any gun at the scene.

Po­lice from the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion I are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
