What appeared to be an act of kindness turned into a robbery, when a motorist was held up at gunpoint after stopping to change a flat tyre along the highway near La Brea on Wednesday.
The 48-year-old victim reported that around 6.20 pm, he stopped his Nissan panel van on the shoulder of the southbound lane of the Archibald De Leon Highway, near the TGU Roundabout, to change a left front tyre.
A white Y12 AD wagon travelling in the opposite direction, with two occupants, reportedly stopped and the men asked if he needed assistance. The front passenger then exited the vehicle, approached the victim, pointed a gun at him and announced a hold-up.
The victim was robbed of $1,800 in cash and a black knapsack containing a black Glock pistol and a magazine with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
La Brea police are continuing investigations.
