A Fyzabad family is now afraid to live in their own home after gunmen opened fire on it on Sunday night, killing Kendell Cooper and wounding three others.
Reports stated that around 9.45 pm, Cooper, 34, of Easy Street, was sitting in his balcony with his friend Atiba Fraser, 27, of New City Avenue when gunmen hiding in the bushes opposite his home opened fire.
Cooper was hit several times in the head, chest and shoulder while Fraser was struck in the chest and arm.
His other friends Malick Joseph, 22, and Mitch Ramdhanie, 29, who were in the yard, were shot on their elbow and abdomen respectively.
Relatives said Joseph was able to pull Cooper inside. When the shooting was over, the gunmen ran through a track and escaped in a waiting vehicle.
Relatives took Cooper, Joseph and Ramdhanie to the Siparia District Health Facility. However, Cooper died in the front seat of his cousin's car.
Joseph and Ramdhanie were transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where they remained warded in a serious condition. Joseph also went to the San Fernando Hospital and was treated and discharged.
Police are yet to determine a motive for the killing.
