Jefferson Moseley, the father of murdered police officer PC Allen Moseley, is seeking an urgent exemption from National Security Minister Stuart Young to return home so that he can attend his son’s funeral.
PC Moseley was reportedly ambushed and killed while visiting a friend in Morvant last weekend. Hours later, police shot and killed Joel Jacob, Noel Diamond and Israel Clinton but Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith said the two incidents were not related. The police killings of the men sparked protests in Morvant on Monday and Port-of-Spain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Speaking with Guardian Media from his home in the United States yesterday, Moseley said he had already submitted the relevant information needed to the ministry but was yet to get a “favourable response.”
However, he said his son’s mother was in dire need of closure and putting her son to rest was a critical aspect of that, so the funeral has already been planned for early next week.
“Should I not be able to make it I will have to view my son’s funeral via online,” Moseley said.
The grieving father said his son’s murder had come as a complete shock to him.
“He was a good boy. He was one of the good ones. Maybe he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. But I last saw him for the Carnival this year in February, where I came to T&T and we limed together.”
Moseley, who was very brief, said he was also now about the safety of the other members of his family in T&T.
“I am very scared and concerned about the safety of his mother and the rest of them there but I am leaving everything in God’s hands. With the protests too and what is happening there, I am honestly scared to come to T&T but we will see how it goes. If I don’t make it in time I will see my son’s funeral online.”
Officer Moseley was ambushed and shot to the back of the head and chest while in his car along the Morvant Old Road at about 3.45 am on Saturday. During their preliminary investigations, investigators received information which suggests a woman whom Moseley frequently visited in the area may hold key information. Police said it was only on Friday night that Moseley had graduated from training at the T&T Police Service’s Guard and Emergency Branch. He was previously attached to the Special Intelligence Unit.
