The North Cen­tral Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (NCRHA) says ur­gent elec­tri­cal up­grade works will take place at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex (EWM­SC) from 6 am on Fri­day 19th Sep­tem­ber to 6 am on Mon­day 22nd Sep­tem­ber.

The works will af­fect one of the two ma­jor trans­form­ers on the EWM­SC elec­tri­cal grid and are aimed at im­prov­ing re­li­a­bil­i­ty of the sys­tem.

Dur­ing this pe­ri­od, the NCRHA says the fol­low­ing ser­vices will be post­poned:

-Out­pa­tient clin­ics on Fri­day 19th Sep­tem­ber

-Elec­tive surg­eries on Fri­day 19th Sep­tem­ber

-Ra­di­ol­o­gy ap­point­ments, in­clud­ing CT scans, MRIs, ul­tra­sounds and X-rays, for all three days

Pa­tients with ap­point­ments on Fri­day will be con­tact­ed with new dates by Thurs­day 18th Sep­tem­ber. Those who do not re­ceive a call are asked to phone 645-2629.

The au­thor­i­ty says crit­i­cal and emer­gency pa­tients will con­tin­ue to be treat­ed at the EWM­SC Emer­gency De­part­ments. Per­sons re­quir­ing non-ur­gent care are ad­vised to use dis­trict health fa­cil­i­ties and health cen­tres in­stead.

It adds that con­tin­gency plans are in place to en­sure crit­i­cal care re­mains un­in­ter­rupt­ed.
