The Scar­bor­ough Mag­is­trates Court was evac­u­at­ed on Thurs­day morn­ing fol­low­ing a bomb threat.

Po­lice and court em­ploy­ees con­firmed the threat was re­ceived around 8am, dis­rupt­ing the morn­ing’s pro­ceed­ings.

Po­lice re­spond­ed to the scene, cor­doned off the build­ing and be­gan as­sess­ing the cred­i­bil­i­ty of the threat while con­duct­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

The evac­u­a­tion comes more than a week af­ter a se­ries of bomb threats tar­get­ing sev­er­al build­ings in Trinidad, in­clud­ing courts and a shop­ping plaza, trig­gered evac­u­a­tions and a wide­spread mo­bil­i­sa­tion of se­cu­ri­ty re­sources.

Those threats were lat­er de­ter­mined to be false.

Po­lice said yes­ter­day that the in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to those in­ci­dents re­mains on­go­ing, with no ar­rests made.

TTPS Pub­lic In­for­ma­tion Of­fi­cer ASP Owie Rus­sell said the mat­ter was be­ing pur­sued through a col­lab­o­ra­tive ef­fort be­tween the Spe­cial Branch and Cy­ber Crime Unit.

He said po­lice would up­date the pub­lic “in the short­est pos­si­ble time”.

Un­der Sec­tion 21 of the An­ti-Ter­ror­ism Act, a per­son who com­mu­ni­cates a bomb threat is li­able, up­on con­vic­tion, to im­pris­on­ment for life.
