San Fernando Hill

There will be no access to San Fernando Hill during Saturday night’s firework display in celebration of Independence Day.

San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello announced the restriction at yesterday’s statutory meeting of the San Fernando City Corporation at City Hall. Regrello urged those in and coming to the City to find other vantage points to take in the display. He said oftentimes, people gather at the base of the hill and try to look at the fireworks at an awkward angle. ANSA McAl is sponsoring the light show.

“We all know that the end of August brings with it the celebration of our independence. Therefore, in the spirit of celebration, I would like to thank ANSA McAl for once more ensuring that San Fernando is not left out by sponsoring the fireworks on the San Fernando Hill from 8 pm to 8.30 pm. The public is hereby advised that there will be no access to the top of San Fernando Hill and should seek alternative vantage points in the interest of their safety,” Regrello said.

As T&T celebrates 57 years of parting from its colonial rulers, Regrello said that the national watchwords of Discipline, Production and Tolerance continues to be and are more relevant today than in 1962. He stressed the importance of aspiring to those ideals as the City stands to benefit from the redevelopment of the San Fernando waterfront and Skinner Park’s renovation. He expects these two projects to provide jobs to the City’s youths.

“Only when we accept our responsibility as citizens of our great republic, will we move forward together as one people, in this grand experiment called the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.”
