Two men charged with the kidnapping of UWI employee Maria Dass have been denied bail.
Keon Phillips, 35, a plumber, from Clarence Trace, Valencia and Ricardo Felix, 21, a labourer, of 106 Saddle Road, appeared before a Tunapuna Magistrate on Monday. They were without legal representation, as charges of kidnapping for a ransom and possession of a firearm and ammunition were read to them.
The case will resume on Tuesday in the Tunapuna court.
However, Phillips also has been charged with robbery with violence, after it was found that he was linked to an incident in Woodbrook on November 25.
That charge was transferred to the Port-of-Spain Magistrate Court, where Phillips is expected to appear on Thursday.
Dass, 26, was abducted from the University's St Augustine campus in a car park near the bookshop at around 3 pm on November 28.
A ransom demand of $1 million was demanded for her release, but police scuppered that plan after they rescued Dass near Caura River less than six hours later.
Two men were arrested during a police operation supervised by Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith.
Phillips and Felix were charged last week Friday.
