Police say the death of Santa Flora nursing assistant in a crash was a bit puzzling as her car did not sustain severe damage when it struck a concrete barrier in San Fernando on Tuesday.
While they speculated that a blow to the head or a heart attack could have led to her demise, they are awaiting the result of an autopsy on the body of Vanessa Reefer before coming to a conclusion.
Reefer, 40, of Jacob Settlement, was an Enrolled Nursing Assistant at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
She was on her way to work around 6 am when the tragedy occurred. Police said she was driving her white Toyota Corolla wagon along the Tarouba Link Road, near the University of T&T (UTT), Tarouba Campus, when her wagon veered onto the median and crashed into a concrete barrier on the roadside.
Mon Repos police and an ambulance responded and found Reefer dead behind the wheel. Her body was taken to the mortuary at the San Fernando General Hospital. Her colleagues said that just last week, she was elated as her daughter had graduated from the UTT.
Reefer’s death was the 80th road traffic fatality for the year and the fourth to occur in four days.
